What's new

What has changed in the recorder, newest first.

Hear the other layers

Recording

  • The other layers play while you record, so a second part can be timed against the first. Wear headphones, so the speakers are not recorded too, or turn it off with Record → Hear other layers while recording.

Safer takes, finer edits, better files

Never lose a take

  • Take recovery. A take is kept as it records, so one cut off by a crash, a sleep or a closed tab is offered back on your next visit.
  • Storage that stays. The recorder asks your browser to keep your recordings when space runs low, and File → Autosave in this browser shows whether it agreed.

Editing

  • Fades and clip volume. Drag the knobs at a clip's top corners to fade it in or out, and set its own volume.
  • Ranges. Choose a stretch on every layer, with Shift and a drag or I and O at the playhead, then silence it, or take it out and close the gap.
  • Lead-in. Recording over a mistake can play the seconds before it first, so you come in on cue. Record → Lead-in turns it on for one to three seconds.

Downloading

  • Loudness presets. Podcast, Voice message, Audiobook and Loud and clear level the file to what it is for, and say beforehand how much louder or quieter it will be.

Small things

  • + Audio file beside + Empty layer brings a file in on a layer of its own.
  • Cleaner input by default. Only automatic gain is on to start with; noise suppression and echo cancellation, built for calls, made voices thin, and are now off until you turn them on.
